The Difference Between Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Easter

Easter has its origins in European tradition.

The name Easter comes from a pagan figure named Ēostre, who was the goddess of spring and fertility. The symbol of the goddess Ēostre was the rabbit, which was also known as a symbol of fertility.

Historically, fertility rituals (and sacrifices) were held in honor of Ēostre during spring equinox.

Today, Easter has become an almost completely commercialized holiday, with attention focused on the Easter bunny and Easter eggs.

Resurrection of Jesus Christ

The resurrection refers to the day when Jesus Christ rose from the grave, having triumphed over death and the penalty of sin. It is a day when Christians celebrate this triumphant and joyous time in Christian history. Biblically speaking, the resurrection of Christ has nothing to do with Easter.

The ancient Roman Catholic Church combined the celebration of Easter with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection in order to make Christianity seem more appealing to non-Christians.

Many Christians believe that the day celebrating Jesus’ resurrection should not be called “Easter.”

The appropriate and Biblical term is “Resurrection Sunday.” Celebrating Easter is extolling and worshipping the goddess Ēostre. Let us focus on worshipping, honoring, and praising the one true God.
